Downloadable Books FAQs

Encircle Publications is proud to offer enhanced digital flip books as a part of our growing line of books and chapbooks.

What is an enhanced digital flip-book?

Enhanced digital flip books are a new type of eBook. These books do not require a Kindle, Nook, or any other kind of eReader. While these books look best on a full screen monitor they are compatible with tablets (iPads) and smart phones. Enhanced digital flip books look just like their print counterparts with turning pages that you can actually hear turning. With this technology we have the ability to embed video, audio, or incorporate flash into these books. We can also provide hyperlinks within the book to a specific page or to any outside web address.

Why are enhanced digital flip-books superior to standard eBooks?

Aside from the extra capabilities of video, audio, and flash, enhanced digital flip-books offer what we feel is the only current acceptable solution for the electronic publishing of poetry. Poetry is as much form as it is content. Standard eReaders have the potential to re-flow text and break up a poem with unintended line breaks thus ruining the form and the poem as intended. Many poetry eBook publishers spend painstaking hours coding to ensure proper form, line, and stanza breaks only to have the intent destroyed when the end user toggles font sizes. Enhanced digital flip books keep the poetry in the proper form as intended. The text is static and fixed. Fonts cannot be toggled but pages can be zoomed in on.

What is the best device for viewing/reading an enhanced digital flip book?

Digital flip books look best on a full sized computer screen in the full screen view option. When your book is finished loading you will find a menu bar of icons to the left. Hover your mouse over the icons till you find the “full screen” view option and click on it.

What’s the best method for viewing/reading on my tablet/iPad or smart phone?

If you are viewing the book on a tablet or a smart phone the best viewing option is the single page view presentation. To find this option hover your mouse over the left menu options till you find “settings” and click on it. This opens up a box. From this box click the drop down menu under “Page Transition” in the lower right hand corner and select “presentation”.

How can I make the text bigger so it’s easier to read?

If the text or the screen appears too small you can zoom in by clicking anywhere on the page. When zoomed in navigate around the page by moving your mouse. To revert back to the original size click anywhere on the page again.

Can I bookmark pages?

Yes, simply choose the bookmark icon then click the “bookmark current page” option.

Can I take notes?

Yes. From the side menu click on “Notes”, click “New” and then type your note. Once your note is saved to the page of your choosing you can then use your mouse to drag the note to wherever you’d like it on the page.

Can I view it on an eReader (kindle, nook, etc.)?

No. As poetry purists Encircle Publications resists the eReading platform for all of our poetry publishing. We feel the technology is incompatible with special considerations of poetry particularly its form. Any device that has the potential to re-flow poetic text has the potential to destroy this art form. Some eBook publishers of poetry attempt to remedy this problem by making static pages. This does not solve the problem of text size for users who can’t see the text well enough. We not only feel enhanced digital flip books are the best option for electronic publishing of poetry but the only option.
