dust

consider what you say

who it might anger

these are desperate times of course but
more importantly
we are all leading hollow lives

we are neither here
nor there

a reason to kill isn’t the same
as a reason to live

a small sound like desperation

do you tell her you
love her
after 20 years of silence?

do you get drunk?

fuck a stranger?

in the streets, there are sirens

on the bridge, there are
candles burning for the asshole
who jumped to escape the
responsibilities of a
pregnant girlfriend

there are flowers that i
grind beneath the tires of my bike
as i cross to the other side
of the river, and do you
write poems because it’s
easier than dealing with people?

do you sit in a house
without your children and
contemplate how all of
this will end?

with small flickers of
hope, possibly,
but they won’t be enough
