Call for Submissions
*Except for Love: New England Poets inspired by Donald Hall
To be published by Encircle Publications, LLC on June 23, 2019—the one-year anniversary of Hall’s passing. Cynthia Brackett-Vincent, editor. Introductory tribute to Donald Hall by Wesley McNair, former Poet Laureate of Maine.
Seeking poems inspired by/in the spirit of Donald Hall (former NH and U.S. Poet Laureate) from established** New England poets***.
- Send cover letter to Brackett-Vincent@encirclepub.com in the body of an e-mail.
Cover letter must include:
1) contact information (name, mailing address, e-mail, phone number)
2) 100-word bio including one sentence about how Donald Hall inspired your work
• Attach 3–5 poems (a total of no more than five pages of poetry) in a separate Word document.
If an individual poem was inspired by a particular work of Hall’s, note that in an epigraph.
No previously published poems; no simultaneous submissions.
Submission deadline: 12/18/18. The editor will acknowledge all submissions within 48 hours and will reply to all submissions by 2/18/19.

**Established poets: Poets who submit must have at least five poems published in recognized magazines or journals and/or have published a chapbook or book of poetry with a recognized press.
***New England poets: Poets who submit must reside in New England (CT, MA, ME, NH, RI, or VT) for six or more months per year.
There is no fee to submit; published poets will receive one copy of the anthology (and a 50% discount on any additional copies desired) upon publication. 10% of profits from the Except for Love anthology will go to the American Cancer Society in honor of Hall’s late wife, the poet Jane Kenyon (also a former NH Poet Laureate), who died from leukemia in 1995.
