Bekker heads to Washington and tracks the last days of Sarah Gertz’s life. She was last seen after a meeting with Senator Oliver Koch, now the leading candidate for the vice presidential nomination in the next election. Bekker also learns that Koch had an affair with Sarah and that she had become pregnant. After an assassin’s failed attempt on Bekker’s life, Bekker is convinced that Koch was behind Sarah’s vanishing act, as well as the attempt to kill him and his family, but he can’t prove it.
And without proof, a murderer could become the next vice president of the United States.

I can’t stop reading. I love the John Bekker Series. They have me engrossed from the very first chapter. These should become movies. Please make a movie.
It kept my interest from the first page and I could not put it down
Loved it and I read all the ones before..terrific.
This is the first of Al Lamanda’s novels that I’ve read. I enjoyed it and will read his other works. His writing style flows nicely and the story is interesting. I liked the way he put together the chapters and moved the story along. On the negative side, I think an editor should have pointed out that the endless coffee drinking is a distraction and the excessive donut talk is neither funny nor entertaining. There was also a description of a 32 feet sailboat that was way off base as far as the price and what a 32 feet sailboat is actually like. Mr. Lamanda was describing a much, much larger and more lavish vessel than 32 feet. The biggest negative for me was John Bekker’s fiancé, Janet. I found her to be ultra-annoying and a drag on the pace of the story. I was actually hoping that as the story progressed she was going to be written out. Bekker’s relationship with her made me think less of him. Even with these few negatives this is a worthwhile read and I look forward to reading more from him.
